FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK
As the first principal of Initium Global School, I see my role as more than that of an educator. I see myself wearing several hats - those of a guide, a motivator, a friend, a confidant, a navigator as well as any other hat the students and staff may need me to wear. I see the education arena as a fun-filled breeding ground of well-rounded, wholesome personalities who co-exist in complete harmony and take joy in each other's success. Ever so often, childhood seems to pass children by as they struggle with the rigmarole of text books, homework, class tests and final exams. But a school should be a place that allows children to be children, a place where practical knowledge trumps bookish wisdom and where, instead of competing with each other, children work together to create a better, more humane world. This, to me, is exactly what Initium Global School is all about.
We ensure that we provide the environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, spiritual, emotional and personal growth of our students with pressure-free classrooms being on the top of our agenda. The only work our students do at home is that of being children. And their classwork is also all about enjoying their childhood - they play games, paint, tell stories, sing songs, playact, play musical instruments and indulge in several other playful activities, even as they learn. We also place special emphasis on the concept of learning by doing so that the children learn for life, not just to ace an exam. So our staff is tasked with making education an organic experience for the students, flowing naturally from their interaction with their immediate environment and giving wings to their imagination.
Initium Global School is also about instilling the all-important values of honesty, integrity, compassion, generosity and equality. Freedom of thought and exchange of ideas are actively encouraged in our classrooms so that the children can learn to think for themselves and to come up with creative solutions, sharpening their analytical skills as well in the process. Each child is unique. It is our endeavour to encourage, nurture, promote and celebrate that uniqueness. We want to propagate a system of education that is less about homogeneity and more about saluting the individuality of each child. A system that does not regard the marks a child scores as the absolute and only measure of his or her success. For a society to be equal, its inhabitants need to rejoice in each other's achievements and for them to rejoice, they need to be confident of their own abilities. We want to instil that confidence from the very start.
We believe in holistic development. Students at Initium Global School are encouraged to develop every aspect of their personality. To not just do well in examinations but to score in the school of life as well. While reading and writing are paid due attention, our students are taught to articulate their thoughts in an eloquent manner as well. Every idea - no matter how vague or miniscule - is welcomed and allowed to flourish. Being able to express them freely and without any inhibitions is key to the growth of any individual. We see our classrooms as incubators - where new ideas morph into concrete, coherent and tangible theories. We see our students not just as kids but as the inventors, entrepreneurs, business leaders and, most of all, productive and inspiring human beings of the future.
